If you’re anything like me and you’ve spent the past several weeks looking for excuses to go out in the car, just to be able to put the air conditioning on maximum and have a little respite, then you’ll be pleased to know that the end of season sales have well and truly hit the shops. That means the season is coming to a close and soon we can all go back to whingeing about our depleted vitamin D and thermostat battles can be wagered amongst spouses once again.
All that said, the season isn’t over. Not just yet, I’ve literally got a (hot)water bottle in the freezer as we speak. I do this to ensure I don’t have to forgo my duvet in the night. I can’t be without my blanket fort, it provides shelter and protection from my many ridiculous and irrational fears. One day I hope to be one of those adults with their shit together. You know, the high functioning kind that can be all “oh, I’m a little hot, I’ll just kick off my duvet and sleep like this because I’m a bedtime ninja”.
Lots of serious financial stuff is happening, interest rates have risen in the UK and Brexit related uncertainty continues to loom. What with such dark clouds on the horizon of frivolous spending, it seems only right that shopping the last of the sales should be something we approach in a sensible and considered manner. Sounds a bit dull I know. Thats why I’ve done all the considering for you and I’ve picked 3 of the big summer wardrobe players that you’re sure to find carrying some hefty discounts and I’ve put together some styling solutions to give these items some serious staying power in your wardrobe.
The Shirt Dress:
The silhouette of the shirt dress is a timeless classic. The year 2018 has seen the midi-length soar in popularity. In colder weather dresses of this length look incredible layered over trousers, paired with driving shoes for Autumn and Biker/Chelsea Boots and a long line coat in winter.
The dress featured below is from Marks and Spencer’s, the Jen of 5 years ago can’t quite believe I’m typing this but, if I had to commit to shopping in only one high street store for the coming season… I’d choose M&S!
Bold Culottes/Palazzo Trousers:
One of the boldest and most flattering trends of the summer. Hands up if your upper thighs owe their un-chaffed state to the stylish, cool and chub-rub busting, super powers of these little numbers?
Bold colours can be a little tricky, I’ve shared my top tips in a blog post The art of dressing colourfully. Keep and eye on my Instagram as I recently bought this crop jumper and I’ll be sharing it on there very soon.
The Midi Skirt:
This skirt does zilch for chub rub, but it does score highly in all other classifications of comfort. Plus they are incredibly versatile, one skirt could see you through the office, to the beach and off to the bar. No trouble. I even got around a soft play in one, though can’t promise I didn’t flash everyone.
Also, did I just use the word “Zilch”?

Now tell me, If you had to commit to only shopping in one high street store for AW18, where would you choose and why? let me know in the comments.
