Beauty Review- My top beauty products from 2017

We made it guys! Happy New Year, 2018 is upon us and I am feeling positive and excited about this year to come. I thought I’d round up my favourite beauty products I’ve reviewed over the year, these are my best of the best and all of them are coming with me into the new year.

Kocostar UK Foot Peeling Pack:

This 90 minute treatment was something I was so excited to try. I followed the instructions dutifully (you may have followed along on my instastories), I removed the booties after the agonising 90 minutes (I was so impatient, desperate to reveal my baby soft tootsies!) only to find that after rinsing, my feet were a bit softer and prune like… not super soft, baby feet I had spent an hour and a half anticipating. Beauty Blogger Fail! I had a mini hissy-fit and soon forgot about the whole saga. Three days later, my feet began to peel. I mean to the extent that I couldn’t show my feet in public. I was on the verge of heading to the GP thinking I had developed a really unfortunate skin condition, when after a week or so the peeling subsided. Revealed were feet that were softer than I could have hoped.

A definite staple in my future “summer ready’ beauty kit. I will know better for next time- Peel first, shellac later and most importantly use 2 weeks prior to any barefoot social engagements!

I’ve used this product twice since and am still a fan.

Red Lipstick:

My personal favourite is a combination of Loreal Makeup matte addiction, colour riche in shade 346, the second colour I use to create my red lip is Stila matte lip cream in Beso. For me these two combined create the perfect red lip- They are the ultimate in non-drying, highly pigmented, long lasting and matte finish products around.

Still my favourite go-to lip for any occasion.

Drops of Youth Liquid Peel– The Body Shop:

This is an exfoliant with a difference, not a micro-bead or scrub in sight. This products is applied as a gel and upon gentle buffing its transformed into a peel. You can literally see it working as the dirt and dead cells are lifted away. The result brighter skin, fewer blemishes and more even skin tone. The only problem, its really addictive. I seriously struggle to stick to the maximum 2-3 times a week as recommended and you may find yourself resorting to using it on family members and other cohabiters just to get a fix of seeing the “ugly beauty” of this product in action.  Consider yourselves warned.

SALTED COCONUT- Hand Scrub

You only need to read my post (Coco)nuts about oil pulling… to get that I really rate coconut oil. I genuinely believe it has the power to restore a multitude of problems (if only it could restore my bank balance after a trip to Zara). This hand scrub combines the power of coconut oil with mineral rich sea salt, creating a intensive treatment to be used on wet hands every few days. Its cured my “Mum hands” and now I’m considering a new career modelling OPI products- ’nuff said (exaggerate much Jen?).

SLEEPY- Body Lotion

If you value your sleep and want a lotion to incorporate into your whole families bed time routine then this is it. A bed time story and glass of warm milk in a tub. Its scent is very calming and its incredibly effective. Great for my little ones Eczema too.

Gloss Bomb (universal lip luminizer) Fenty Beauty:

Fenty Beauty is probably the most hyped product launch to hit the beauty world in 2017.  This range was designed to address the void in the market- a brand to flatter all skin tones. With that in mind, this lip gloss is described as “the unicorn of nudes that looks good on everyone”. It really is a very flattering nude for me and its in the kind of packaging you feel you need to get out of your bag and show off in public!

It cosmetics CC colour correcting, full coverage cream:

Where to start? I literally can’t gush about this enough. If I was required to only wear one cosmetic for the rest of my days, I’d choose this. Why do I love it so much? Well, for starters its SPF 50…yes, I know, FIFTY! It’s so hard to find a product which has such a high factor of UVA/UVB protection. Don’t go thinking just because it’s winter in your part of the world you don’t need high SPF, I can intuit you scepticism, no matter the season UVA/UVB is present in our day to day lives (*Dismounts from Soapbox).

The second reason I’m loving this CC cream is that it is actually improving the appearance of my skin. Hard to believe that you can both cover imperfections (the coverage is totally build able btw) and treat them at the same time! Lately I’ve been waging war on breakouts, but I got caught in a cycle of coverage and then making my skin worse… No longer!!!

It smells great too. Happy pores? Check. Happy nose? Check. Happy Jen? Abso- frickin-lutely.

One month on, I’m still loving this. Wearing it daily and it even stayed put whilst is spent the day at the Dreamland Themepark in Australia on a 40 degree day!

Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II- Estee Lauder:

Totally in love with this serum and its equivalent eye cream. At the grand age of 31 I can’t take my skin for granted, this serum has really transformed the texture of my skin. It feels smoother and looks brighter and more even. Yes it is expensive, but trust me your face is worth it. I apply this in the evening after cleansing, prior to my night cream. I drop it over my forehead cheeks, nose, chin and neck and tap my fingers across these areas in an outward motion. I follow with a facial massage using the roller I purchased forever ago from The Body Shop (you can find the link to shop in my post Korean Skincare: Tried and Tested).
