With Black Friday around the corner, chances are you’re thinking about Christmas shopping. If you want to get your loved one something special, I strongly urge you to consider a subscription box. Far from being just a novelty, these little boxes can bring joy for much longer than one day. What’s more the contents are usually significantly more valuable than the subscription fees. Worried about being tied into a long contract? Don’t be, many are flexible – most offering 1, 3, 6 & 12 month subscriptions and easy cancellation. The following article summarises some of my favourite subscriptions available in the UK (if you are reading from outside the UK, don’t stop! some of these brands ship internationally or there are equivalent subscriptions you may not have thought of). There’s something for everyone, so if your struggling for inspiration read on.
The Beauty Addict:
Beauty subscription boxes are huge at the moment, as a result the industry has become very competitive and that means the quality has been driven up and prices have stayed in a reasonable range.
Roccabox is the self proclaimed “beauty members club” specialises in perfectly packaged (white and gold boxes), monthly deliveries of makeup, haircare and beauty. What makes this box unique is that each box is curated in partnership with different beauty influencers. This means you also get all the inside hints and tips. This is the perfect way to gain exposure to different brands and products that you otherwise would never have tried. FOMO no more! At £10 plus P&P with no fuss cancellation this is the perfect affordable gift for those new to beauty and makeup or even those fed-up with their “same old” products.
Cohorted black, bow-tied boxes of pure high-end luxury. This is the gift for someone who loves indulgent beauty and designer brands (previous months boxes have included Chanel and Nars). This box is at the higher end of the beauty subscription spectrum, coming in at £35, but the goodies inside are often valued at double that (at least). If a subscription doesn’t quite fit your gifting needs, there are wonderful “gift boxes” also available as a one off.
The Foodie (and the Gin Lover):
I Love Gin is the ultimate subscription for a friend or loved one who is fond of this iconic Great British tipple. £14 per month (with free delivery) gets you 4x servings of G&T. Each month the selection varies and the selection is based on the most complimentary combinations. Whats more, you also receive serving suggestions, “Ginspiration” for recipes and discount vouchers for full sized bottles.
Sign. Me. Up.
Cheese and Sympathy not as depressing as the name sounds. Its basically a subscription service for wine and cheese or just. wine or just cheese. Prices vary extensively depending on the quantity ordered. What more can I say? its Wine and cheese? who wouldn’t want that for Christmas?
The Novice Baker:
The Baking Club. Got a friend or loved one who got a little bit involved in Great British Bake Off? This is the subscription for them, or for any time poor individual who loves to bake. Every month a recipe is sent to your door, it contains easy to follow instructions from Michel Roux. All dry ingredients are also included (yes that includes the finest Belgian chocolate and also supports local British produce).
With subscription options of monthly (£8), quarterly (£22) and 6 monthly (£42) with anytime cancellation on the rolling monthly subscription, this subscription makes for a very affordable gift.
Ready? Set? Bake!
Get a Date Night. This subscription brings date night to your door. No stress in coming up with a fun date idea. Put the Netflix off for a night and enjoy the moment. These dates change every month and include fun and original activities, specifically for you as a couple (based on the results of a short questionnaire). Everything you need for the date is included, and with activities from wine tasting to cake pop making/decorating the fun you could have is endless.
Because what is a better gift than time and memories together?
What is the best Christmas gift you have ever given or received and why? I love hearing Christmas stories.
