Okay, so we are in March…I can’t quite believe it. A quarter of the way through 2017 and I am only just getting around to talking to you guys about PANTONE colour of the year- Greenery. Not familiar? Let me catch you up. Each year, PANTONE (the world renowned authority on colour) launch a colour of the year. This is a colour that for a number of reasons they predict will be huge that year. Last year it was “Serenity and Rose Quartz”- calm pinky-blue, pastel hues that (as predicted) were (and still are) huge. I mean if you haven’t heard of unicorn hair then I might assume you’ve been living under some rose quartz.
Though Unicorns and Mermaid vibes aren’t for everyone, PANTONE predict that “Greenery” really will be. Described on the PANTONE website as…
“Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. PANTONE Greenery is a versatile “trans-seasonal” shade that lends itself to many color combinations.”
Ive taken a look at “Greenery” and its suggested colour pairings to suggest outfits for all occasions.
The Country Jaunt:
If the innate craving to escape modern life, as mentioned above, becomes too strong to resist, you will need some appropriately stylish country attire. This Brown/Green Parka is perfectly practical- with nice roomy pockets to fill with gadgets you couldn’t quite bring yourself to be separated from or better yet snacks (I suffer from occasional Hanger induced rage and so snacks are always on the agenda).
The Sloane Ranger:
Green isn’t just for the countryside. It can add some real flair to an outfit as an unusual neutral. Why not bring some much needed greenery to the concrete jungle? I love pairing darker shades with reds and burnt orange to create a really rich palette. Combine this with high-waisted trousers at an awkward length and you will score some major fashion credit. This look is perfect for creating an illusion of height and works perfectly with a flatform shoe or ankle tie pumps- the ultimate footwear for Spring/Summer. Perfect for hitting the Kings Road pavement and parting with some greenery of a different kind 💸.
I think “athleisure” is a word now, right? If it’s not, it should be. If “Squad Goals” has made it into the Oxford English Dictionary, then the bar is seemingly low enough that this hybrid of a word should get a pass. Anyway, assuming my English is legit’ , let’s discuss the look. Nothing says “I’m leisurely going about my business and I’m also a super fit girlboss” than trainers and baseball caps paired with statement bags. I use the term “trainer” loosely, these are not shoes to be trained in. The ones featured below are Valentino and the closest they should come to a workout is the repeatetive motion of sipping prosecco on repeat.
Khaki is a fab’ shade of green and it is perfectly complimented by nude/blush tones. This creates a feminine look and helps avoid any “soldier off-duty” confusion.
Going “out out”:
Plisse fabric is having a major moment. This also happens to look insanely beautiful in an emerald green. This super glam fabric is ultra girly and so to give the look some edge, I’ve paired it with a biker style leather jacket and nude studded accessories. The way to make greenery work for evening wear is to play up textures and pair unusual pieces. Too much of one style and an outfit starts to resemble a fancy dress costume.
In the Office:
Research has shown that offices run better with greenery (read the study from The University of Exeter HERE). Why should that greenery be limited to plants? Corporate smart doesn’t have to be bland. Power dressing can be the result of perfectly combined colours that scream double threat (the ability to look chic and think smart at the same time). There you have it, Greenery for any occasion. Do you like this years colour of the year? What colours do you think will see you all year in 2017? I would love to hear from you.
